Floods in India - 10/2009

Floods devastated parts of India a weeks ago. The poor, once again, go from having very little to having very much nothing, as they bear the brunt of the losses. Many families lost crops and animals, from which they derive their only income to feed their family.

The dams are built by the corrupt oligarch investors in order to collect income from electricity generation (of course provided by free water). Flood control is very much an afterthought. And let's not forget the hundreds of thousands to millions who are forced off their land, without just compensation, when a plugged dam creates a massive lake in the back.

This video is provided courtesy HOPE and Rangde.org MFI. Rangde.org is currently taking donations from Indians (sorry, only in rupees).
