Katy Perry - Hey Hey Hey

HEY HEY HEY YOU!

Saw her in concert at the Staples Center. She's brought out a massive and gorgeous video screen in the shape of an eye this time. The flowers on stage and the floating around planets segments were so entertaining.

This is my most favorite part of the concert. The studio version of the song is actually dubbed over the video so the music isn't live, but since it's so clear it's more fun. There are other videos that are live, however, and they have their own appeal.

And this is the funniest music video of all time! This is the best song on her current album, and so is this video. Dare you not to laugh at the comedy!

Camila Cabello - Never Be the Same

A NEW YEAR, A NEW STAR

Looked her up because her other song Havana is on the radio. I like Never Be the Same much more though. She has so much passion in her singing.

Incredible backgrounds on her appearance on the Tonight Show...

And the original music video is a touching montage of her past...

NONA : Beyonce - Hold Up (Cover)

YANA

I'm not a fan of remixes 99.99% of the time. They are created by people who lack creativity to create their own songs. And 99% of covers also lack creativity. In both cases, they ruin the original song.

But here is an exception. Here's the first cover I'm going to post because the video and song is so much better than the original. Well actually, I'm not a Beyonce fan and fail to see her popularity. Her performances don't entertain me and there is nothing in her songs that I can relate to.

Anyways, here's NONA's cover of Beyonce's Hold up. I really like the slow motion video as it bring out the nuances and subtleties. The singing is awesome. It's just a fun video to watch. That is Michael Goldman.

PS: There's a cameo by Meg Myers. I'll let you look for it.

THE SOUL ON SALE

Alexandria sings a song about potentially selling herself out to money and fame so that she starts doing what THEY want and not what SHE wants. Staying true to one's self through the process is difficult and not everyone makes it. It reminds me of the time when Lorde was singing about getting on her first plane (1:05).

Lyrics:
Violet was tickling my fancy
Gives out just the right amount of soul
I wonder if it makes me sound too old
Decided that it's Stella or Candy
Seems as if I'm spinning down a pole
Swept them over to the stack of no's
La-di-da
I sing songs about Whatever the fuck they want
Whatever the fuck they want
Ooh-Eeh-Ooh
I'm so blue
Anna-Marie Mirage Painting my tear drops on
And on...
Staring through the window of a wig store
Crying to the credits of a show
That you've seen a bunch of times before
An inch away from settling on Coco
Shame that she's that girl you used to know
Loved her, but we had to let her go
La-di-da
We sing songs about Whatever the fuck they want
Whatever the fuck they want
Ooh-Eeh-Ooh
We're so blue
Anna-Marie Mirage Painting our tear drops on
And on...
Anna-Marie Mirage
Shooting a mood collage
Piñata paper heart
I don't know where she starts And I stop
Dress me like the front of a casino
Push me down another rabbit hole
Touch me like I'm gonna turn to gold
She's almost like a million other people
That you'll never really get to know
And it feels as if she's swallowing me whole
La-di-da
We sing songs about Whatever the fuck she wants
Whatever the fuck she wants
Ooh-Eeh-Ooh
We're so blue
Anna-Marie Mirage
She's painting our tear drops on And on...

Katy Perry : Chained the the Rhythm

CONTEMPLATE

A song by Katy Perry that makes you think, makes you contemplate, make you say, "hey that's me, that's my situation"? It's the boredom of living in suburbia where days pass by with the same routine. I guess shes feeling it too during the break.

Other songs by her that said something about life, made me ponder, was inspirational, and associated my situation with hers. I love these songs!: Who Am I Living for, Lost, Long Shot, The Box. There are one or two that I'm leaving out that I do not have the song names of but I have run into them before.

Somehow this song is supposed to be political, but I don't see it in the lyrics. And I don't think people are apathetic. They just want things and stuff and that's what they vote for. People are bribed into turning a blind eye to evil that's perpetrated as long as they get their bread and circus. The philosophy isn't healthy.

So is the song about Trump then? Well, Katy did campaign for Hillary (she campaigned for Obama too). She's just misguided. Trump is no different then any president before him. Trump is just flamboyant and that is what rubs people the wrong way. Trump is not any more fascist or dictatorial.

Obama was slick while he was lying, letting bankers off the hook, allowing spying, jailing whistle-blowers, and bombing innocent people. There was this lull that people grew into. Heck, people in their 20s, who were the majority of the protestors, were literally still in their diapers when Billy Boy Clinton was having affairs in the White House 20 years ago. There were no protests. So these protestors have no history to fall back on. They don't realize it is same as it always was.

She is the #1 entertainer of all time for me.

So Katy explains the song a little and goes into what she's up to lately. I am happy she's taking a break to live life. She isn't concerned about money at this point - she isn't a psychopath! I'm personally taking a few months off work myself to regroup and enjoy the nice warm California weather. Hoping to get some travel and vacation in too.

Grimes : Venus Fly music video

EYE CANDY

At last it's here. The flagship song (in my humble opinion) deserves a flagship music video. And here it is!

It is THE song I head bang to in the car.

Some creative criticism: Love it. It really is eye candy. Colorful, scenic, beautiful, suspenseful, and dramatic. It did, however, get too fancy and missed out on the classic Grimes personality and charm. It was overriden with all the graphics and graphics sequences.

Check out Flesh without Blood, Butterfly, Go, World Princess II, or Hana's Underwater videos. Those are spectacular. Anyways, you decide...

Btw, half the song is sung by her friend, Janelle Monáe, who has recently costarred in some movies.

UPDATE 2/14/2017 - With my upgraded laptop I just watched this as my first 2160p video on my 1080p monitor and it is ridiculously spectacular. I take back my criticism of the graphics distracting from the content. It flows perfectly fine in 2160p with all the details presented, whereas in 1080p it doesn't make the video pop out as much and make out its intended presentation. It is a wonderful mood setter in 2160p! This is indeed one of the best music videos ever and perhaps Grimes's best.

M.I.A. : P.O.W.A.

W.O.W.

Well it's been awhile since Paper Planes. The third world deomcracy aka M.I.A. aka MIA is out with a masterpiece of a song and video. What a gorgeous and beautifully crafted video full of personality!

Talk about a brainworm... There's something about the video or tune that keeps bringing me back. I've already watched it a dozen times.

The guy in the background makes this song. Sounds like ..

Dank dank dank dank dank dankdank dankdank dank
pow pow pomp pomppomp pomp pomp pompa pomppomp

Also I believe it's spelled Kid Kamillion who is also the co-producer and a DJ remixer. He is misspelled in the CC lyrics.

Turn on the CC for the lyrics!

Mariah Carey : Close My Eyes

MAYBE WE ALL GREW UP TOO SOON

Say what you will about Mariah Carey but this is a lovely song. This was posted before under Mariah Carey but it is such a good song it needs to be posted by itself. I think most people can relate to this song and even shed a few tears. Time is unforgiving and merciless.

Alexandra Savior : Mystery Girl

SHE WILL HAUNT YOU!

I only post lyrics if they're good and worth visiting as is in this case.

Boy, do I have someone and something special for you... Alexandra Savior.

And here's her spooky, haunting, chilling, storied, revenge seeking, movie sountrackish, song - Mystery Girl.

Lyrics:
In my mind, I've acquired a tangle
I can't undo
I've been thinking about nothing else...
Lately

Does it feel as if somebody's keeping an eye on you?
Peripheral vision
Playing tricks on you

[Pre-Chorus]
Awoooh...
'been meaning to say
I just wanna be where you are
Before you escape

Awoooh...
Hush now
Don't explain
Wound up with a heavy heart
From waiting in the rain

[Chorus]
Pardon me, baby
But who's the mystery girl?

Don't you try to calm me down
Don't you try to calm me down

Pardon me, baby
But who's the mystery girl?
Mystery girl...

[Verse 2]
Was it just you and her?
Did you go in the photo booth?
Was it loud?
Was it hot?
Was it lively enough...
For you?

Is she likely to be there
If I were to show up soon?
The little suspicions
Clinging onto me

[Pre-Chorus]
Awoooh...
'been meaning to say
I just wanna be where you are
Before you escape

Awoooh...
Hush now
Don't explain
Wound up with a heavy heart
From waiting in the rain

[Chorus]
Pardon me, baby
But who's the mystery girl?

Don't you try to calm me down
Don't you try to calm me down

Pardon me, baby
But who's the mystery girl?
Mystery girl...

Awooooh...
Ooohhh...

[Bridge]
I know that we're growing apart
Because your planet precedes yourself
(Awooooh...)
I know that we're growing apart
Because your planet precedes yourself

[Outro]
Don't you try to calm me down!
Don't you try to calm me down!
Don't you try to calm me down!
Don't you try to calm me down!

Awooooh...

Bishop Briggs : The Way I Do

A LIFE OF PASSION

I'm just going to copy and paste what I posted on Facebook:

Passion has always been part of my life. It's about that journey and imagining arriving somewhere better for others and/or yourself. A betterment that's full of direction, hope, wish, vision, and sharing (which unfortunately most people most of the time do not take up). Can you find the passion in this video?

Btw, I saw her at The Fonda Oct 29, 2016. It was a fun show and the music notes, instrument emphasis, (or equalizer?) are different than the ones I hear through my headphones or stereo.

Indeed, you will never know my passion, unless you partake in it.

The third song is Desire.

Meg Myers @ Lollapalooza 2014

THE GOLD STANDARD

It's been about one year since my discovery of Meg Myers. This year SIA had a standout performance at Coachella 2016. Meg Myer's Lollapalooza 2014 performance is in the same league. In fact, that this point, it is the gold standard and perhaps it may never be matched or surpassed.

I'm surprised things don't start flying off during stage during the exorcism! It's a sort of mood cleansing. You'll come out refreshed.

Anyways here it is. Watch it before it gets taken off the internets.

Would love to hear your feedback...

Won't let you go... Don't let me go...

Oh but that piano! And that camera work!

I can't believe I haven't posted this before. This is a masterpiece of a song. It's one of the best songs ever and perhaps the best one from Avril Lavigne.

Did it make you cry too?

Meg Myers on Conan 04-26-2016 and Meg in 2012

THAT HAUNTING, THAT SADNESS. THAT HAUNTING SADNESS

Damn the burden of being born sensitive...

Speaking for myself, there's this dark sadness and hopelessness born out of circumstances out of one's control. Wishing things were a certain way vs. what they really are. Knowing things can be better and try to push things in a better direction but the desire and need to make thing better being denied... It's because of people's stubbornness, egos, stupidity, selfishness, or whatever else it may be. You're trying to help but it's not working. You're trying to understand but cannot. It's all out of your hands. There is helplessness and a hopelessness. There a dull pain and ache inside that never goes away. It can't go away unless your dreams are realized. In time, you realize they can't be.

Here's a really good article on Meg Myers back in 2012 and sheds some really deep and personal aspects. It's really good even if you are not a fan of her music.
