Some really good links from Stoneleigh yesterday

As I was reading Stoneleigh's Automatic Earth blog yesterday I ran into these two wonderful articles:

Why some people value material things and why some people value life and people:
[Article] Materialism, where does it come from?

Victims of tsunami suffer starvation and cold. Roads are blocked from Tokyo. Only emergency and rescue vehicles are allowed through. They need to allow food and supply trucks through! Maybe the roads are impassable. Some Japanese feel so shameful scavenging for food, but they have no choice. It's heart breaking:

Stoneleigh vs. Lira - The Prematch 02-10-2011

Financial Survival Radio presents in this corner.... Gonzalo Lira the Hyperinflationist... and this corner... Nicole "Stoneleigh" Foss the Deflationist.

Tonight they go head to head in a debate to end all debates. But for now here's a joint interview to discuss their upcoming debate "Stoneleigh vs. Lira - Deflation vs. Hyperinflation".

And remember.. No hitting below the belt.

I'll go with what Ms. Stoneleigh has to say. She appears to be much smarter than Gonzalo Lira.

The video of the 2 hour debate is supposed to be out next week.

MP3 may download slow. Save to hard drive first if you have trouble playing.

More from Stoneleigh: Deflation and Peak Oil 10-23-2010

Part duex from Stoneleigh's (Nicole M. Foss) interview on Jim Puplava's Financial Sense Newshour. Stoneleigh's blog is The Automatic Earth. On the table is the topic of hyperdeflation in a "greater than Great Depression" scenario. Commodities including gold are expected to go down. Things get more expensive (as percentage of income) as incomes decline and people buy less stuff. Also on tap is a discussion on peak oil and coping with energy needs in an oil-lesser world.

Btw, I got the presentation and what's in these MP3s pretty much covers what's in that pay for presentation.

Stoneleigh: Deflation 06-12-2010

You've heard the concept of extreme deflation first from Stoneleigh!

Here a look at extreme deflation cased by a severe depression where credit dries up, asset prices, fall, the currency fails, and long supply chains become localized. The energy (oil) bubble that's fed the financial bubble will pop the bubble as the world surpasses peak oil. It's just around the corner. Stoneleigh wants to prepare you.

So it's a question of hyperinflation vs. hyperdeflation. Which route will the currency take?

I guess enjoy spending your dollars while they still have value and there's still oil around. Finish that trip you've always wanted to take!

Here's Stoneleigh (her website is The Automatic Earth, http://theautomaticearth.blogspot.com) speaking at the Transition Network Conference in the UK on 06-12-2010. I thought the Q&A was more informative so I'll put it ahead of the speech.
