Amazing film of San Francisco in 1905

VINTAGE EYE CANDY

This film is shot from a cable car traveling down Market Street in San Francisco in 1905. This is shot a year before the Great San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 whence the San Andreas fault slipped to the tune of 7.9 on the Richter scale. The city was engulfed and destroyed by fire.

Check out the comments on Youtube for this video!

Clarke and Dawes from ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) News run in circles asking each other a few simple questions about the European bailout. It's quite funny.

Joel Salatin's Polyface Farm: A look into passionate farming

Meet the Farmer TV visits Joel Salatin's Polyface Farm, a multigenerational farm based in Virginia. We look into techniques employed to grow food in a local, appealing, sustainable, and dignified manner.

Threats faced to this type of farming come from big agribusiness, big pharmacetical, chemical/fertilizer monopolies, and GM seed companies who hire the government (EPA, USDA, etc) as their henchmen to take down production methods that shrink their sales. Doublespeak and "double-do" are visited, analyzed, and dismissed.

Take a look at how poultry, cattle, pigs, turkeys, and rabbits should be raised.

The People that make your iPhones

Anandtech.com's DailyTech had an article a few days ago about the appalling conditions at Foxconn's factory in China that makes Apple's iPads, iPods, and iPhones. I think we can do better than this.

Encore: The Duplex Apartment

Hey guys, long time no blog posts! I was out and about on business travel. Sorry about that. Looks like I've got to catch up on a lot of the online material.

Anyways, here's an amazing look at the SUPERSIZED hotel room @ Encore, Las Vegas. These rooms make up the ends of the Encore building. These things at 6000 sq ft are bigger than most houses! Reserved for the high rollers and now available on a select basis to the regular public, rumors are these go for $3000-$5000 per night can be had for half that during the weekdays. The reviewer got in at $1250 on a weekday but don't expect that low of a price. I've read comments that Travelocity and Orbitz has them.

Here's a comment on Youtube:
Provided there aren't any ultra high rollers in town and management allows you to book one, you're looking at about $3.5K to $8K per night. Most weeknight are in the $5K range.
I lucked out, though. I booked during the absolute lowest point of the recession for the deadest time of the year 7 months in advance for $1250. Considering that the single story version of this suite never goes under $2K per night, I think it's safe to say the deal I scored will never happen again :-(

Educational Video about Despotism in 1946

HITLER IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER

The way things are going, people are going to welcome in fascism. Come on down, Hitler! Yeay Tyranny!!

Come hell or high water, it will be demanded by the middle and upper class stockholders that stock prices hold at high levels. If other people must suffer and/or die, so be it!

Anyways, here's the video...

Nova: Mind over Money - Human Economic Behavior

SELL THAT $20 BILL FOR $28

See how a $20 bill gets bought for $28. The Dutch Tulip mania gets covered. Bubbles get created even though the value of item traded will be $0 at the end, and the traders know it, but they buy anyways!

I do think that I would rather have that $100 now than $102 tomorrow. Who wants to spend time and gas coming back to collect $2 more dollars? Furthermore, it's a matter of trust. Maybe the person won't be present to give you that $102 tomorrow.

The scariest thing is there's $60 trillion (Max Keiser gives a figure that's much higher) in derivatives that's been created that will come due sooner or later. Can you say unsustainable? SELL NOW! Maybe buying farmland and ammo isn't so irrational!

Yes, Bush is still around

PRESIDENT OBAMA'S CHOCOLATE COUNTRY

You can run from bush, but you can't hide! He's omnipresent!

I noticed a huge spike in gas prices this week. Is this due to selling the oil spill?

George Bush maybe gone but his legacy and that of his cronies is ever so present as we deal with the oil spill in Louisiana. Mix in Reagan/Bush Sr./Clinton/Bush deregulation and Halliburton and what do you get? A man-made, didn't have to happen, disaster.

First of all, where's the automatic shutoff valve? If it's there, why is it not working? And why does the government need to be called (an effort funded by the taxpayers) in every time there's a disaster? The federal government sent in an army of office people and DC hacks to make it look like Obama was doing something. It's not another Katrina! I'm not sure how airplane sorties is supposed to cleanup an oil spill. Oh and what about the damage to other people's businesses, like the fishermen, and tourism offices, and businesses on the beach? These oil companies are not liable for any damage to other people's properties and business income? We'll keep having these situations until we get off the internalize profits, externalize costs economic model. The corporations do not need coddling. They need some serious attitude adjustments.

Ravi Batra on The Thom Hartmann Show 04-30-2010

It's been a really long time since Dr. Ravi Batra has been on Thom Hartmann's show.

Dr. Ravi Batra talks about CEOs causing the economic disaster, not the government. The government implements what these CEOs advocate. Dr. Batra is also in favor of cooperatives (employee owned workplaces).

The interview starts 36:00 minutes into the file.
